A small humble ski town have recently kept bringing The Family back every summer. There are a few campgrounds that are minutes away from town. Our favorite is Elephant Rock Campground, though most people favor Columbine Campground.
Elephant Rock Campground
This campground is the closest campground to Red River that can fit TT. It is a little more jagged than Columbine but we like it for the open space, tall pines, and lack of brush. It is unfortunately not on the Red River, but you can cross the highway to access the river for fishing. The Columbine Canyon trail is a favorite hike into the Columbine-Hondo Wilderness.
The Town
A great mountain town, the town is laid back and the views are just amazing. The kids love walking around checking out the little shops, the go karting, eating ice cream, and the rides up at the ski area. When Little Bird was young, the Brandenburg Park has a playground and an open yard for music and food trucks. The Red River Jamboree is hosted there that is definitely worth checking out.
