A month ago, Mom mentioned that the Parents might be in for a weekend project of cutting foam boards into 60 surfboards. These surfboards will be used to entertain children during the Immanuel Lutheran auction. Dad was not excited to hand cut these surfboards and decided to let his 3dprinter cut them instead.
Dad found a dremel holder for the Anet A8 here https://www.instructables.com/id/PCB-Milling-Using-a-3D-Printer/
. After the print was made, swapped the extruder carriage for the dremel carriage and began working on the toolpath for the surfboards.
To generate the gcode for the toolpath of the cutter, Dad originally tried to use a svg file of a surfboard and have inkscape create the gcode but inkscape did not account for specifics of Dad’s Anet A8. Time to approach it a different way since this is such a limited use case. He used the svg file and had blender turn it into an obj. Specifically a cookie cutter.
He then imported it into Cura to have it sliced into gcode. Using python, he split the code into slices and flipped the gcode so it worked from top to bottom and thus surfboards are now being cut out of foamboards.
