Checking Transmission Fluid Levels for 2017 Kia Sedona 3.3L

  1. Remove the battery and battery tray.
  2. Add 0.7 liter of ATF SP-IV after removing the eyebolt (the black plastic bolt that has a hole through it for overflow
  3. Start the engine to heat up the ATF. (Drive until thermostat is at normal running temp)
  4. Check that the temperature of the ATF is between 50C (122F) to 60C (140F). I can only test this by measuring the fluid in step x.
  5. Move the shift lever slowly from park to reverse to neutral to drive and back to park. Repeat this sequence a total of two times and then move the shift lever to neutral.
  6. Remove the ATF level plug while the van is horizontal.
  7. Check the ATF level while car is running.
Normal: ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
Excessive (abnormal): ATF flows out over 0.9 liter for 2 minutes.
Insufficient (abnormal): There is no fluid flow.
  8. Correct the ATF level by:
Excessive: Allow to drain until the ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
Insufficient: Add until the ATF flows out in a thin oil stream.
  9. Install the ATF level plug. Do not reuse o-ring.
  10. Install the eyebolt.
